MISSION
The Town of Greene Highway Department is a service organization. Our mission is to provide the residents of Greene high quality, economically efficient road maintenance, repair and improvement.
STRATEGY
The Highway Department endeavors to improve the basic structure of town roads, thereby reducing the level of annual maintenance required. Specifically, improvement projects are designed to provide for a ten plus year life and reduce or eliminate annual maintenance tasks. Base stabilization, pavement overlays and asphalt surfacing of gravel roads are some of the techniques used in pursuing this strategy.
Over the past two years our road improvement progress has stalled as the result of three national disaster level flood events. As a service organization, our first responsibility is to respond, in any way possible, to the needs of the community in emergency or disaster situations. Once the initial situation is controlled, we begin the process of damage repair. The three recent storms, particularly the November 16, 2006 storm, resulted in unparalleled damage to the Town of Greene infrastructure. Repair efforts have taken precedence over almost all road improvement projects, and will continue to dominate our work schedule for the next several months.
