STAR: Beginning in 2019, homeowners who have the STAR exemption may receive a greater benefit if they switch to the STAR credit. The value of the STAR credit savings may grow by as much as two percent from year to year, but the value of the STAR exemption can never increase.

- EXEMPTION APPLICATION DEADLINE
- TAXABLE STATUS DATE - Assessments for the coming year are based on the status and condition of your property as of this date. If you have removed or changed anything on your parcel, call the assessor by March 1st to have your property records updated.
- TENTATIVE ROLL: All increase-decrease notices will be mailed. Tentative Assessment Roll is published and available for inspection at 51 Genesee St., at the Assessor's office - and at the link above: "Assessment Roll".
- The local Board of Assessment Review will hear complaints from taxpayers concerning their assessments. The BAR meets annually at the Greene Town Hall, 51 Genesee Street, Greene, New York on the First Thursday following the Fourth Tuesday in May from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Grievance forms should be filled out completely and submitted to the Assessor at least three days in advance. The form is available from the Assessor and also at the link above: "Complaint on Real Property Assessment".

Job of the Assessor
The Assessor's job includes making sure assessments are accurate and equitable, which provides the basis for fair distribution of taxes among the property owners within the assessing unit. The Assessor also is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate property records on all land and structures comprising the 3000-plus tax map parcels in the Town.

- Make an appointment to meet with anyone at their residence who is not physically able to come to the Town Office to complete the required forms.
- Calculate the assessed value (or market value) of homes within the Town and Village of Greene.
- Provide the following public information about a property parcel upon request:
- view Tax Maps
- Owner's name(s) (current and previous) and mailing address from Assessment Roll
- Assessed value of a home or parcel of land
- Inventory information including the year built
- Most recent sale information
- Tax Rates
- Reviews eligibility, approves applications, and provides information about tax exemptions as follows:
- STAR and Enhanced STAR
- Veterans Exemptions
- Senior Citizen Exemption
- Agricultural Assessment
- Agricultural Buildings & Structures
- Business Improvements
- Assists taxpayers in filling out and submitting exemption forms.
- Maintains the RPSv4 real property records system.
