Office of the Municipal Historian
9Welcome to the page of the Greene Municipal Historian! My name is Bryan Bernardi, and I am the Municipal Historian for both the Town and Village of Greene. I took over for Peg Ross on August 1st of 2021. Mrs. Ross served this town for years with the utmost level of dedication. She shared stories, photos, answered questions, and kept the story alive! We tip our hats to her and wish her the best in the next chapter of her life, and I am dedicated to filling the shoes that she leaves behind to the very best of my ability.
About the Town Historian:
I am 29 years old, and a Florida native. My mother and her family are from right here in Greene, with most of my maternal family still residing here. In addition to Town Historian, I am also a full-time Corrections Officer with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, and a Former Officer with the New York State Mental Health Police. I have been infatuated with History since I was a little kid, and has since grown. I have served in several History-related roles to include but not limited to: Board of Directors for the Near Westside Historic District in the City of Elmira and Superintendent of the Historic Second Street Cemetery in downtown Elmira. My "areas of specialties" are Building and Site Historic Preservation and Cemeteries. Though I am proficient in an array historic specialties. I am a member of the Association of Public Historians of New York State, listed in the registry of State Historians. I look forward to becoming the longest-serving Historian for the Town and Village of Greene, filling out the next 40-50 years and writing the largest chapter in Greene's history that future generations will be able to learn, understand, and share.
I invite any and everyone to share their stories, photos (digital or developed), family history documents and pieces, Building/site/house pictures and documents, or anything else that would contribute to the Story of Greene. I also invite you to ask questions, submit suggestions, or just simply drop a line and say "hello!" My goal as the new generation of Historian is to provide the constituents of the Village and Town of Greene an easily accessible Historian with a "boots on the ground" "out in the community" "visible" point of contact to preserve and share the stories at are "The Town and Village of Greene, NY!"
